Choosing the Perfect Boudoir Photographer: Tips and Considerations

You’ve been thinking about booking a boudoir photoshoot, but how do you know if you’ve chosen the right photographer?

Here are some of my tips and considerations when choosing the perfect boudoir photographer.

1) Choose a photographer that specializes in boudoir, not one that shoots boudoir along with many other genres. A boudoir experience can be a very intimate experience, and opting for a specialist ensures you'll receive the highest quality results. A photographer who specializes in boudoir has honed their skills and expertise specifically in capturing the intimate and sensual nature of these photos. They understand the unique lighting, poses, and atmosphere required to create stunning boudoir images that make you feel confident and empowered. By choosing a specialist, you're investing in a photographer who is dedicated to delivering exceptional boudoir photography, rather than someone who may only dabble in it occasionally among other types of photography.

2) Choose a photographer whose style you LOVE! Before you pull the trigger, you want to consider the style the photographer produces. Are they dark & moody? Light & Airy? Or somewhere in between? Check their portfolio on their website and social media to be sure it’s the exact style you’re looking for. Also consider the types of retouching that they do. Do they take the time to remove bruises and blemishes and maybe soften fine lines or do they just hand you over a disc of images without any retouching? An artist will fix blemishes that aren’t permanent and have the abilities to change things that you determine are worth changing.

3) Before you book your photoshoot, you want to get to know your photographer and be sure they align with you or “vibe.” You can do this by reading their “about me,” getting to know them on social media by watching videos and reading posts, or I highly recommend doing a phone consultation so you can talk to them on the phone and gauge their personality. Since boudoir photography involves vulnerability and trust, choose someone you feel at ease with and who creates a safe and supportive environment during the shoot.

4) Check social media reviews, their website, Yelp, and Google for client testimonials. Positive reviews can provide reassurance about the photographer’s professionalism, skill, and ability to deliver incredible results. Asking friends if they recommend a good boudoir photographer can really help narrow down the pool of experts vs. dabblers.

5) Your photographer should be able to effectively communicate and respond to an inquiry, email, or text with questions you may have. Look for someone who responds swiftly and will convey and outline the details of the photoshoot and how to prepare. A photographer that discussing your vision and can address any concerns is a winner!

Consider these 5 tips when searching for a boudoir photographer. You want to have the most incredible experience and choosing a specialist can make or break the experience for you!
